Home Reading Instructions
***Reading logs will be collected periodically. Date will be communicated through your child's agenda. There will be one assignment due each term (except for September, December and June). Due dates will be communicated through the homework page and your child's agenda.
As part of our nightly homework, students in Grade 4
are required to read for at least 15 minutes each night. The choice of reading
material is completely up to the individual student; novels, comics, storybook,
even a hunting magazine. Whatever interests you! Some exceptions include social
media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, but news sites like CBC are completely
acceptable. When in doubt, ask your teacher!
Each night you must record the item you have read, and
give a brief 3-5 line summary. Your summary can be a personal reflection on
your feelings about the reading material, or give the meaning of a new word you
came across. You and your parent(s)/ guardian must initial your reading log
each night, and I encourage parents to ask thoughtful questions about the
reading material to really get your child thinking deeply about what they are
reading.
Once a term, you will select ONE choice from
the choice assignments. Pick
carefully because you can only do an assignment once. Upon completion,
you will be given the option to share your assignment with your class. You will
be expected to present at least once throughout the year.
I look forward to seeing your exciting creations!
Happy Reading!
