Reading Log Activities
Journal Entries - Pretend that you are one of the characters in the
book. Write two journal entries from that character's point of view about
events that happened in the novel.
Book Review - You are a writer for a major newspaper and have been asked to
write a book review. What rating would you give the book? Explain why
you think your rating is justified. You will need to discuss the plot and
character development to support your viewpoint.
Diorama - Create a diorama to illustrate a scene from your book.

Dinner Invitation - Pretend that you have invited the main character of
your book to your house for dinner. Write a story about the happenings and
conversation at the dinner table. You should consider the personality of
the character. (For example, if the main character is argumentative, dinner
could be disastrous.)
Personal Connection - Write about an event that happened in the book and
then write about something similar that happened to you.
Graphic Organizer - Create a chart to show what you have learned about the
main character. Include clues from the author about: 1) how the character
looks, 2) what the character does, 3) what the character says, thinks, or

Bookmarks - Design four (4)
bookmarks that illustrate events in the book. The front and back of each
bookmark should have illustrations and text.
Retell - In several well-developed paragraphs, retell the story
in your own words.
Interview - Pretend that you are going to interview the main
character of your book. Design 8-10 questions that you would ask and write
the responses that you would expect to get.
Persuasive Paragraph - Write a persuasive paragraph to convince other
students to read the book.
Treasure Chest - Create a treasure chest that would include five items
belonging to the main character. Include a brief written explanation of the
significance of each item. You may want to present your items creatively. Why

Mobile - Choose one of the characters that you particularly
liked and decide on five of his/her main characteristics (Examples: kindness to
others, inability to get along with people). Create a mobile that
represents the character. Include illustrations and a brief explanation of

PowerPoint/ Movie Maker - Using illustrations and text retell the story. You
should use 10 slides. You may include music but remember to save the music
with your Power Point /MovieMaker. You can save your assignment on CD,
Jump Drive, or email it to your teacher.
Graphic Representations - Recreate the main ideas from the story in graphic
form. You should use at least 8 frames. These frames may or may not
have text but must include lots of detail and the storyline must be easily

pages.

should be half a piece of Bristol board.
Create a
brochure – include facts, pictures, diagrams, etc.
